Then the ones who pleased the Lord will ask, "When did we give you something to eat or drink? When did we welcome you as a stranger or give you clothes to wear or visit you while you were sick or in jail?"
The King will answer, "Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me." .......Matthew 25

Jennifer's Fruit Cake sale - fund raising for Cambodia

It was very sweet and generous of my niece Jennifer to contribute to our fund raising efforts by selling home made fruit cakes. Here is an extract from her Jennifer's Mimosa-Corner blog site:

As a student, I do not have much to offer to the children of Cambodia who are impoverished, uneducated and vulnerable to all sorts of social problems. So I decided to put the skill that God gave me into good use and raise money through selling Christmas fruit cakes into the school building project for Cambodia's children. I will give the entire proceeds from selling these cakes to the school building fund.

If you like fruit cakes, how about helping me raise the money by ordering a few cakes?

Let me know how many you want, and when you want it by. I am selling each 500g cake for $15. Remember that every dollar goes into the fund, because I will bear the cost of making the cake myself. That is my contribution!

I have worked with Cambodian NGOs for many years and have seen kindness such as yours put in thorough action. However, a word of caution is that you must ascertain that the funds you raised go directly to the purchase and contribute objects/items/goods which the money is intended for. We have done many projects to raise funds for homes only to find that the money went to purchase of laptops for administrators or on a bigger scale, land for investments. The children still feed on what they were given with little improve.

I applaud your kindness.

You are absolutely correct.

All funds raised are directly disbursed from the church account to the Cambodian agencies for the purposes specified. We do not levy any administrative, travel or support fees for the work we do, and all such costs are borne personally as part of our own 'giving'.

In the sale of these cakes, for example, 100% goes to the fund, and the cost of materials and time are all personally borne.

The people we work with in Cambodia, particularly in Baray are people we know very well and have worked with for the last 10 years. So we are able to ensure that the money is being used for very specific items. This is one of the reasons why we have managed to remain engaged in this work for 10 years.

Like you we have seen moneys being abused, and dishonestly misappropriated. We also strongly disapprove the practice of using donors' money for administrative support etc.

Thank you for your encouragement.
